Patna: Children’s Day celebrated across institutions with gaiety & fervour

Children’s Day, which marks the birth anniversary of country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, was celebrated with gaiety and fervour across educational institutions in the city on Monday.

PATNA: Children’s Day, which marks the birth anniversary of country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, was celebrated with gaiety and fervour across educational institutions in the city on Monday.For a change, instead of attending their normal classes, boys and girls enthusiastically participated in the cultural programmes organized in their schools. Each school celebrated the day in its own style, creating lots of fun and creativity for the children in the process.The students and teachers of Kamla Nehru Shishu Vihar High School celebrated the institution’s 60th Foundation Day along with the Children’s Day with great enthusiasm. The school was founded by Sarvodaya leader Jaya Prakash Narayan and his wife Prabhawati with the mission of bringing the children of downtrodden and weaker sections to the national mainstream by educating them properly.An athletic competition was organized for the children and the winners were given attractive prizes by school principal Sunita Prasad. Children were served interesting food items at the food stalls arranged inside school premises.
As a part of celebrations of Children’s Day, Magadh Mahila College English department organized the screening of two educative films, ‘Born Free’ (1966) and ‘Living Free’ (1972) for the students. Addressing the students, college principal Namita Prasad recalled the valuable contributions of Nehru in laying down the strong foundations of democratic institutions in India. Archana Jaiswal of the English department welcomed the students and faculty members.At Don Bosco Academy, a cultural programme was organized for the students. In fact, children were entertained by some teachers who took to the microphone and sang patriotic and spiritual songs. Children also got gift packets and sweets on the occasion. At St Joseph’s Convent High School, the students were told about the significance of the day and Nehru’s bond with the children. Students enjoyed the presentation of dance and songs by some talented school teachers. "I really liked the programme and we had an early dismissal," said a class VII student of the school.Army Public School, Danapur Cantonment, celebrated Children’s Day with great zeal and enthusiasm. Vice-Principal P. K. Samantaray addressed the gathering, saying that when we nurture a child well, it helps to build a stronger nation. The special attraction of the event was the Hindi skit; the applause by the students seemed to further cement the bond between teachers and students.A painting competition was organised for the children at Boring Canal Road locality by “All Angelic Brains,” a healthcare organization on Children’s Day. Paediatrician Dr Reena Sinha gave away prizes to the winners.
